a bit about me...
It was 2007 and I landed my first non retail job in the fashion industry. With a portfolio pieced together the night before, I was hired as a freelance graphic designer for Scanty PJs in Santa Monica. It was all cads all the time.
One day the power went out and I was given the opportunity to develop a print. The print I created was modified a bit and then picked up by Neiman Marcus! I began watching and learning from the other designers, pouring over the runways and hopping from job to job watching the sales reps come and go with their big suitcases full of prints.
Then one day, someone asked me, if you could do anything, what would you do. And I knew.
I wanted the big suitcases full of prints.
I wanted my own studio.
Hi, I'm Leslie! Owner and creative director at White Buffalo Studio. I have learned so much over the years about starting up your own studio, working with reps/agents, attending trade shows, growing an email list, printing to fabric and selling your art. I spoke at FIDM twice about trend forecasting for my studio and how I personally go about it. Both times, I found that the students were more interested in what a studio was, how it worked and how to work with one. I began receiving emails and questions from students and freelancers alike and after a bit of research online I noticed the lack of real information available to print designers in the apparel industry. I began putting myself out there sharing my experience, creating workbooks, workshops and even a private facebook community. I saw the response and just kept going! So now here we are with our new Membership full of information to help print designers navigate their design path in the world of printed textile designs. I can't wait to have you there!
